Almost exactly 5 years after the UK withdrew from the Euro-XEF project in Hamburg, the UK government announced today that it is to invest up to £30 million to once again become a full member of the European XFEL facility. While the exact details of the agreement have still to be worked out, this is great news for UK science.

More great news – we have been awarded 3 days of beam time on the Matter at Extreme Conditions beam line on the LCLS XFEL in April 2015 to look at shock-induced phase transitions in elemental metals.

4th December 2014

We have just been awarded 3 days of beamtime at the ESRF to look at phase transitions in elemental metals at high pressures. In particular, we are hoping to prove that some complex phases which we have previous data on are incommensurate.

11th Oct 2014

Just heard today that we have been awarded 4 weeks of time on the Janus laser at LLNL to look at shock-induced phase transitions and melting in alkali metals.
